OH, RICO BOY

In Missouri’s quiet, familiar space,The shadows fell across my face. The world went dark, the path was gone,I could not see the rising dawn. But hands of love reached through the gray,And brought me down to Arkansas’ clay.

Seven acres wide, where mini horses roam,A vast new world that was not yet home.An Aussie’s spirit, sharp and bright,Became my compass and my sight.I whispered low of what I could not see,And Rico pledged his loyalty to me.He left the herd, he set his tasks aside,To walk beside me as my constant guide.

For four long months of shadow and of doubt,He watched my steps whenever I went out.He never faltered, never missed a stride,A true companion walking by my side.

Then came a morning, crisp and clear,When suddenly the shadows disappeared. The light returned, the world was sharp and new, Oh, Rico Boy, the very first thing I saw was YOU.I held my hero tight, our spirits flying high,No longer needing Rico’s observant eye.

A grand pup’s love, a bond so deep and true—Oh, Rico Boy, I owe it all to you.
